New Format and Clues for Portsmouth Harbor Light Letterbox

Location:  Fort Constitution, New Castle, Rockingham County, New Hampshire

Terrain:  Easy

 

Driving Directions:  

I95 North to Portsmouth

Exit 6, US Route 1 South

US Route 1 to NH Route 33 East

NH Route 33 to South Street (on right)

South Street to US Route 1A South

US Route 1A to US 1B (on to Newcastle Island)

Cross over drawbridge, (note interesting renovation on left.)

Follow US 1B to entrance to Fort Constitution Historical Site (be alert, its easy to miss)

Park in designated area just before Coast Guard Station.

Follow Blue Line to Fort Constitution.

 

Letterbox Clues:

Once inside the fort, find the flat white stone at which the lighthouse lies at a bearing of 195O, the descriptive sign for the lighthouse lies at a bearing of 170O, and the descriptive sign for the mine house lies at a bearing of 315O .

Sit on this stone and gaze at the harbor.

To your left, under some stones covering its niche

Lies the Portsmouth Harbor Light Letterbox.
